Hey there, family! It’s Charlene Pinnock here, and I am absolutely bursting with excitement to share something very special that’s been in the works at We Are Autism. If you’ve been following our journey, you know that our mission is all about "Building Bridges", not just between services and families, but between the hearts of our children and the world that sometimes struggles to understand them.
We often talk about the "spectrum" in terms of challenges, but today, I want to talk about the spectrum of color, creativity, and pure, unfiltered talent. On Saturday, April 11, 2026, we are hosting "Voices of the Spectrum: An Art Showcase Celebrating Our Kids" at the Pan-African Historical Museum USA (PAHMUSA) right here in Springfield, MA.
From 12 PM to 4 PM, we’re turning that beautiful space into a gallery of dreams, and I want you and your little ones to be a part of it.
At We Are Autism, we work with so many families who are navigating life without traditional therapy access. Maybe you’re on a two-year waiting list for ABA, maybe your child has aged out of certain services, or maybe those services just don't feel like the right "fit" for your family’s culture and needs.
I’ve seen firsthand how frustrating it can be when a child is non-verbal or has limited communication, and the world assumes they don't have anything to say. But here’s the truth: communication isn't just about spoken words. For many of our kids, their voice is in the stroke of a paintbrush, the molding of clay, or the way they arrange colors on a page.
Art is a universal language. It doesn't require a diagnosis, a referral, or a specific insurance plan to speak. When a child on the spectrum creates something, they are giving us a window into how they see the world, and let me tell you, that world is usually vibrant, complex, and incredibly beautiful.

Choosing PAHMUSA as our venue was a very intentional decision. As a Jamaican-founded organization, representation is everything to us. We want our families, especially our Black, Jamaican, and diverse global families, to feel seen and celebrated in a space that honors heritage and history.
PAHMUSA is a gem in Springfield, and hosting our kids’ art there sends a powerful message: Our children belong in the halls of culture and history. Their stories matter. Their "voices" deserve to be heard in the most prestigious spaces.
Event Details at a Glance:
If you have a child between the ages of 3 and 18 who loves to create, we want their work on our walls!
Whether it’s a finger painting, a digital masterpiece, or a sculpture made of recycled materials, this is their stage. You can sign your child up to participate through our Linktree.
One of the biggest reasons I started Building Bridges is because I saw too many parents walking this path alone. I know what it’s like to feel like you’re shouting into a void, trying to get the support your child deserves.
This art showcase isn't just an "event", it’s a manifestation of our mission to walk alongside you. We aren't just here to give you a pamphlet; we’re here to build a community where your child is celebrated for who they are right now, not who a clinical report says they should be.
For the parents who are struggling because ABA services are unavailable or have ended, please know that creativity is a therapeutic tool in its own right. It builds fine motor skills, offers sensory regulation, and most importantly, it builds confidence. Seeing their work hanging in a museum? That’s the kind of boost that can change a child’s entire perspective on themselves.

We are a non-profit, and that means we rely on the village to keep these programs running. We want to make sure every child who walks into PAHMUSA on April 11th feels like a superstar. Here is how you can support this vision:
While we are gathered in Springfield, our heart is global. We Are Autism is proud of our Jamaican roots and our commitment to the global autism community. We know that the experience of raising a child on the spectrum is different across cultures, and we want our showcase to reflect that diversity.
We want to see the bold colors of the Caribbean, the intricate patterns of global heritage, and the unique perspectives of every family that calls Springfield home. This is about showing the world that "autism" doesn't look like just one thing. It looks like us. It looks like our kids.

When you walk into the showcase on April 11th, expect a vibe that is warm, welcoming, and high-energy. We’ll have the art on display, of course, but we’ll also have opportunities for families to connect.
If you’ve been looking for support groups or just someone who "gets it," this is the place to be. I’ll be there, our team will be there, and most importantly, a whole lot of other parents who are walking the same bridge as you will be there too.
We’ll also have information about our educational articles and upcoming webinars to help you navigate the practical side of things, from school advocacy to home support strategies.
I often say that we are "Building Bridges" because a bridge implies a journey. You aren't at the destination yet, and you aren't stuck where you started. You are moving forward.
This art showcase is a beautiful stop along that journey. It’s a moment to pause, breathe, and just be proud. No IEP meetings, no diagnostic codes, no "deficit-based" talk: just art, community, and inclusion.
So, mark your calendars! April 11th, 12 PM - 4 PM.
