Hi everyone, Charlene here! If you’ve been following our journey at We Are Autism, you know that everything we do comes from a place of deep, personal love and a desire to build a world where our children don't just "fit in," but truly thrive. Today, I am beyond excited to talk about a project that is incredibly close to my heart: Marcus’s Word Adventure.
This isn’t just another kids’ show. It’s a labor of love inspired by my own son, Marcus, and designed specifically for our beautiful neurodivergent community. Whether you are a parent navigating a new diagnosis, a caregiver looking for screen time that actually "gets" your child’s sensory needs, or someone who just loves a good story, this series is for you.
When Marcus was younger, I spent so much time looking for content that reflected his world. I wanted something that celebrated his unique way of thinking while helping him navigate the often-confusing world of language and social interaction. As a Jamaican family, I also wanted him to see diversity, to see a world that looked like ours, filled with color, rhythm, and different faces.
I realized that if I couldn’t find exactly what he needed, I had to create it. That’s how the idea for Marcus’s Word Adventure was born. It started with the simple moments we shared at home and grew into a digital learning initiative designed to help kids on the spectrum explore words and problem-solving in a way that feels safe and fun.
You can read more about our mission and my journey on our About page.

At its core, Marcus’s Word Adventure is an animated educational series that follows Marcus and his magical unicorn companion as they journey through vibrant, structured worlds.
We know that for many of our kids, the world can feel unpredictable. That’s why we’ve built this series around the concept of "The Word Adventure." Each episode is a bite-sized journey where Marcus encounters new concepts, but always with the support of his magical friend and a predictable format that lowers anxiety and boosts engagement.
We’ve integrated specific strategies that we often talk about in our educational articles. By using visual cues and clear, repetitive structures, we help children transition from just watching to actually participating in the learning process.
We didn’t just make this show "cute", we made it smart. We know that neurodivergent minds often process information differently. Here’s a look at the educational pillars we’ve built into the series:
Many autistic children have a natural strength in noticing visual similarities and patterns. In Marcus’s Word Adventure, we lean into this! Marcus often has to identify objects that look alike or find patterns to solve a puzzle. This builds confidence by letting kids use their natural strengths to master new skills.
Research shows that predictability helps autistic children feel safe and calm. When a child knows what to expect, their brain is "ready to learn" rather than being stuck in "survival mode" due to sensory overwhelm. Our episodes follow a consistent flow, ensuring that the environment feels secure.
Empowering our kids to make choices is a huge part of their development. Marcus often has to decide between different options to move forward in his adventure. This models simple decision-making skills that parents can then mirror at home during snack time or playtime.
Learning isn’t just about ABCs and 123s. It’s about how we treat others. In segments like the "Forest of Kindness," Marcus explores what it means to be a good friend. These social stories are vital for children who might find traditional social cues a bit tricky to navigate.

I know many of you are in a position where access to intensive services like ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is either unavailable, too expensive, or perhaps you’ve finished your sessions and are looking for what comes next. At We Are Autism, we want to provide those "Building Bridges" moments.
This series acts as a tool for parents and caregivers. While your child watches Marcus, you can see communication strategies in action. You can see how we pause for processing time, how we use visual aids, and how we celebrate the "small" wins that are actually huge milestones.
If you’re looking for more practical support beyond the screen, I highly recommend checking out our Building Bridges program, where we dive deeper into these strategies for the home environment.
One of the things I am most proud of is the diversity infused into this project. Our community is global, and our representation should be too! Marcus’s Word Adventure celebrates the vibrant colors and spirit of my Jamaican heritage, ensuring that children from all backgrounds see themselves represented as heroes in their own stories.
Diversity isn't just a buzzword for us; it’s our reality. We want to ensure that every family, regardless of their background, feels a sense of belonging when they interact with our brand. Whether you are looking for support groups or just a friendly face who understands the journey, we are here for you.

We have big dreams for Marcus and his magical friend. We want to produce more episodes, cover more complex "Word Adventures," and reach families in every corner of the globe who lack access to traditional support services.
To do that, we need your help. Here’s how you can support the mission:
You can also support us by visiting our shop and picking up some gear, like our Autism Awareness Tumbler, which helps fund our non-profit initiatives.
At the end of the day, Marcus’s Word Adventure is about connection. It’s about that moment when a child finally "clicks" with a new word, or when a parent sees their child smiling at the screen because they feel understood.
We are more than a support service; we are a family. From our webinars to our events, our goal is always to empower you.
Thank you for being part of our village. Let’s head over to YouTube and start the adventure together!
One Love,
Charlene Pinnock
